Rubanda Solidarity Kids

Hey Dear , We are off for our vacation until late May. We are just wishing to all of you, friends, a nice summer and enjoyable vacation. "Peace be with you until we come again". Bye bye.........

Rubanda Women

 70% Loaded to Women

Its more than shocking to see that women in Rubanda provide more than 70% of their family responsibility while they do not fully enjoy their rights to property ownership nor family finance controls.

With this dilemma, Rubanda Solidarity has discovered the secret to these women. Give them Awareness,Income generating Skills, a start up fund and Advocacy. This is all they need to fully emancipate.

Here below are some pictures of new initiatives at Rubanda Solidarity offices. Our motto is "United for success". Women in Rubanda have to get together and change a primitive hoe into a tractor.
Being aware alone would do no change to women situation unless income generating initiatives are added.Women need to know that working with others creates room and platforms for sharing, confidence and empowerment.Investing on solidarity and unity are a huge key to women empowerment and great opportunities to advocacy. This is what Rubanda Solidarity is trying to be for Rubanda women.

Income generating Skills and Advocacy. These services are all the Rubanda women need to have smiles on their faces. Could you imagine a woman looking into the face of her child yelling for food/hungry and yet she has nothing to offer for breakfast nor lunch or even supper? And if she affords it for a day, she is never sure of tomorrow's. This is the kind of life most women are socked in, in Rubanda.

Please, would you feel to join us in changing the lives of these women through awareness, income generating skills or advocacy, just know that we are there for you.
You may contact us online by posting a comment in the window provided below and we will guide you. Thank you.

Easter Message from our School Kids

Hello Dad Hello Mom, Who is Jesus the teacher tells us about?
He was an excellent man who loves all little kids and peoples?
But why then does our teacher say that he was hated like us and killed, mom? Is it true that he worked miracles even for little kids? Ooooooh yes. Teacher told us that he died on good Friday, who will then be doing miracles for little kids, mom?

Ooh, Yes, next week teacher will tell you about what happened after he had died, ok.
But what about Dad, does he know about Jesus, mom? Oh yes. Because last week he told me that he was not going to eat lunch and meat because he wanted to be like Jesus.
Oh no mom, you mean Jesus does not eat meat? Oh terrible little kid, Jesus died a very bad death, on the tree and for that reason your dad  leaves out meat on the day Jesus died, to remember his death. On the day Jesus died? Did he die on the day like little kids go to school? Oh yes. Friday? Yes. Waooooo. And then? Because the father of Jesus was a great man called God, he raised up Jesus, his son. Oh mom...,true? Yes little kid,in the early morning of Sunday.
This is why in church all say Alleluia . Waoo, was he not stolen mom?  No little kid, God came and took him up. Go..d? Yes. Ooh.
That God whom our teacher talkes about when holding the bible. Great. You are a brilliant kid. Oh that God must be great. Can I see him mom? Who? God. Oh yes. That's why you have your Easter vacation. We shall go to meet him On Easter Sunday in Church and to our friends. Ok? Ok mom.
Thank you mom.

A Mustard Seed

 Wonderful kids

Mentoring kids is like tendering a mustard seed. You initiate, you care, you educate and you protect.
Rubanda Solidarity new school village in making
Rubanda Solidarity aims at giving kids the best they can be. On the photo you will be able to see the humble beginning of our new little village. Its our new school for our kids. At the moment, it accommodates our 260 nursery and primary kids.
Its our hope that with time things will get better. But certainly we have a long way to walk through financial constraints. No water, no light, no enough and nutritious food and no any means of transport than our legs, just to mention priorities for basic living and education.

This is the dining these kids can find
On the left, Kids enjoy their meal/lunch. Its not for fun or enjoyment of summer heat that they are where you see them. They have no better place designated for a meal.  That is the dinning facility they can find.
We offer life kills from early childhood
Acute kids learn all possible life skills because they are enthusiastic of knowledge and making a difference in their life. In the picture on the right side our kids learning how to sew under the mentor of Sr Stellamaris. In a near future they can make their own living, clothing as well.

Have a look below. Nearby our school we have lake Bunyonyi. Once a while our kids get a ride there but its the deepest lake in our country so we can't have fish. Its a lake that never dries its greenness and friendly hills. You just  need to find some space in your time to go and have a look on the Overland hotels that sit  on these hills.
Lake Bunyonyi
If you enjoy nature, you will enjoy Rubanda, its hills and peoples. But certainly development would enhance its beauty.

Come and enjoy our nature with us that will bridge the two worlds.

Donating a Smile

Education support to a Kid is a big smile into new life!

Child education support creates new smiles
Rubanda Solidarity invests its energies to provide "Quality Education" to kids.
This means integral education that includes safe environment for kids, provision of basic needs and offering needed spiritual and academic education.
Our kids are not fortunate in the same way. Some enjoy their parental affection because they have the chance to see their parents though stricken by poverty to provide them with what they would need. Others have no chance to enjoy either of the parents, and other do not even recall the face of their both parents. Its sad to grow in a such environment. How ever, God provides a way through.

In 2002, Rubanda Solidarity management team, initiated  "Child Education Support Program". This program aims at building solidarity with both local and international friends to the sole interest of orphans and vulnerable kids in the community. The project began with one family, another miracle, of Italian origin adopting at a distance two kids. Since then a string of generous people are building up a strong force supporting more than fifty kids through child education support program project through distance adoption.

Its amazing to see a project that began in 2002 now has a graduate daughter, two in high school and over forty kids in primary level, all at a distance adoption program by our solidarity friends.

Our kids are great and intelligent but badly started by poverty.

Would you like to pull one out of it?

Five Chickens hatch a school

In 2002, faced with poverty impact and increasing social pressure by the HIV/AIDS virus, more than ever, Rubanda community felt a big social stress with children being the most vulnerable.

Ms Agnes: As five chickens multiply, a schools is born
As the virus deepened its devastation on adults, many children became increasingly orphans, others were forced into child parenting because their parents were too weak to work or single. But the story became different for three kids/orphans who were adopted by a generous mother after their both parents died to the virus at Rubanda Health center leaving them a lone at the facility.

Their new family became of a size of twelve. And I remember asking their new mom of what economic plans she had put in place for their survival replying to me with amazing faith, " My son, God who has made it possible for us to reach where we are, will also make it possible for them", (the three kids).

I was deeply struck by her strong faith and sense of providence of God that many would call stupidity  in today's world. This God of hers, started working miracles. Because, a year later, a friend and sympathizer gave her an idea to initiate a small chicken scale project to generate some income to support her big sizable family.

To a generous heart, God makes many miracles. Few days after, another friend donated some money just a enough to buy five chicken layers, construct their shelter and feed them on chicken mash for a month. To your amazement in less than a year, the economic face of this family had changed. Many women started to seek entry to the project's expansion that left a group of women grow to a size of 14 and 35 women.

Things did not end with five chickens. One day, during one of their regular meetings, one of the women tabled a point of discussion, " For some time now we have been focusing on our needs as women, wouldn't be a good idea if we created a specific activity to improve the current harsh conditions of our children?"

The idea was welcomed, discussed and agreed to begin a private nursery school which eventually becomes the first ever nursery and private primary school in the whole sub county. In 2004 a pilot school project was initiated with 90 children with specific provision of food at breakfast unlike all public schools in the area where children run through all the day with empty stomachs in the classrooms. This alone was enough to win the hearts of children and parents.
At the end of the year during an evaluation, excellent results were observed by excessive demand for parents to bring in their kids commenting that they no longer have problems with their kids waking up to our school. "They even wake us up early in the mornings to go to school because they do not want to find breakfast over", parents affirmatively narrated.

In 2005 the miracle of our new private school  was then officially  launched under the name, "Rubanda Solidarity", because its a fruit of solidarity. And today this very school serves 260 children of whom 180 are Boarders and 80 Day scholars from within and outside the community.
Initially, because of our heavy financial constraints and needs, the Rubanda Solidarity Nursery/Primary school administration then, opted to add a class each year until the whole primary circle was complete. And this completion is due next year 2012 when we shall have our first 22 candidates sitting for their first PLE (Primary Leaving Examination).

This being the miracle of five chickens, many more miracles can happen just with the little effort one affords with a generous heart to the poor. It will be left to God to add in some yeast. Do not worry about the size.

If you feel to join our solidarity, to know more about our miracle and how God is still continuing in his providence, just contact us through online sabscription.

You could be the next friend to Rubanda Solidarity.

Women's harsh life conditions

Women at work
In Rubanda community, women provide more than 70% of house hold responsibilities. In spite of all that burden, they have very limited economic freedom. Most women solely contribute heavily to the upbringing of children and children education even though they have no control over their financial resources. They have incredible stamina to survive their daily hardships. Unity is their anchor.

This is one case of what stresses women in Rubanda
The concern of RSDA is to offer constant awareness programs to the community and women in particular, supporting them with life skills and advocacy so that with time they are empowered and able to make an impact into a better life. And unless they enjoy their economic rights: property and financial control, their situation will instead slip into chronic poverty.

Lending an ear to their cry and joining their struggle are the ultimate tools RSDA is applying.

If you feel able to generously support our noble cause, please reach us through the subscription now. You can make a great difference.

School dropout youths ministry

Ms Agnes gives some life skills tips to school drop out youths at RSDA.

No community development effort that will flower into success without unity. And there are as various reasons for unity as there are people on earth. But RSDA reason is strength for development based on human concern and the love of Jesus Christ who came so that all may have life in full.

Some of these youths had no chance to go through their formal school education while others never had a chance to enter through the door. They are now receiving life skills at our training center. They able because of the generosity of many community members and friends of both local and foreign origins.  We are most appreciative.

You could be the next friend to add on their smiles even from a distance.

Individualism is Poverty

Inspirational : Our community development efforts are based on the community's proverb," Ageitereine gate'igufa", which means, its the combined effort of the teeth that crushes a bone or unity is power.

Just to save time in the future, we refer to our selves as RSDA (Rubanda Solidarity Development Association). When RSDA began in 2002, we barely had anything. We started from scratch but five chickens. Thanks for some dedicated community members who provide more than 60% of the the program's sustainability and growth.
