Sick Water Sick Population

Our Kids need Safe Drinking Water

Look at this Unsafe Drinking Water for our kid's!,
Sick water like this infects many kids in Rubanda
If there is any horrifying story in Rubanda  is the sick water and its scarcity.

Rubanda has a hilly landscape which means one finds households scattered all over in the valleys as well as on top and on the hilly slopes.

Kids scramble for the only available water source
Like a duty ordained, its mostly mothers and children who spend daily long hours tracking for drinking water. Its incredible.

However, Rubanda Solidarity Nursery/Primary School is working hard to make a difference by applying a manageable technique of water harvesting in spite of its meager finances.

It's the organization's priority and mission to improve the life situation of which provision of healthy water is just one ingredient of basic needs for our kids. But its a slow process due to limited resources.

Development shock for kids:  Children at Rubanda Solidarity School like in their home are forced to pick up their little containers(jerrycans) every early morning and first rush to the well to fetch water before they can enter their class . Otherwise they would not have their meal when out of class.

Kids spend most of their childhood tracking for water.
Other times, children spend a day or so without drinking water because it's not available or is too sick that the child can't withstand it.Water that is described as "life" is precious even before its claimed "safe" in Rubanda.
Many times we see the situation and just close our eyes. To see people literary searching and scrambling  for drinking water as in a hunting game is absurd and is pushed to question why such suffering.

Women and children bear the harsh situation finding safe and drinking water. Many times they wake up in the middle of the night only  to walk and converge at the only well in the village. This may take them hours to get their containers filled depending on the size of the line and the pressure of the dripping water.

Its a drama of water. We always educate our kids that water is life and if you have safe drinking water you have a health stomach and a healthy mind. Our struggle is how to improve the quality of life for our kids by providing them with access to safe drinking water.

"Two Doves" is Our Logo

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

You are most welcome to our "Rubanda "Community Blogger

We do many things human beings need but most of all for our little children.

We care 4Kids like Two Doves do!
We have kids languishing out there as Orphans or vulnerable, Youths dropped out of school, widowed ladies and mothers who are so overburdened by poverty and disease that they can hardily think of tomorrow's burdens. They just want to survive today.

The founding of Rubanda Solidarity Development Association (RSDA), in 2002 was in answer to this missery that needed urgent Solidarity.
And today, just to mention, we have Rubanda Solidarity Nursery/Primary school started  in 2004.

Our main mission with this school is to improve children's livelihoods through provision of quality education that stems from the provision of basic needs like better shelter, regular and nutritious meals, clean and safe drinking water, light and more to these less fortunate kids. Many times life is horrible 4kids even in their homes.
They go through the whole day without a meal or have it but not enough or enough but not nutritious or nutritious but not adequate . Its unimaginable.   With RSDA school, things are different though still limited.

At the beginning of this association, I couldn't think of a proper and good name, enough to portray my vision, mission and objectives. However, poverty and HIV/AIDS were a vicious circle on which all inspiration came from. Then one night, like a dream a vision of two doves strenuously working to provide for the future life of their siblings, came clear to me. What was left was to interpret it in relevancy to the situation at hand.  Without hesitation, two doves represented "Peace" which is a responsibility of both father and mother (two doves again), two ages or siblings are their kids under their guard.

That's our Logo. We work hard to improve the livelihoods of the community but remember it wouldn't be possible to move a finger without 'Solidarity".

"Life is like a Flower"

Like a flower that  flowers in the morning and withers away by evening, so is life. Live it profitably when you can.
Walking together through the jungles of Mugahinga Mts.-Uganda

This is not to echo hopelessness in life but offer a trick to a wisdom that strengthens life instead.
A flower from the southern highlands of  Ethiopia.
Once faced with bitter realities of life, remember that everything has its time line. Like a flower that flowers in the early mornings and fades away by evening so is our life. If its good give glory to God and enjoy it and when bitter with courage and confidence pray and remember that it will soon pass by  because all has its time. Have a hope filled journey.

This is what RSDA is about: Fighting poverty together is the key to success. The wisdom here is "Solidarity". For Life Shared, is Life Lived. Making life shared makes it possible to walk through the jungles of life contrary to life alone that would breed poverty into eternity.

"Solidarity" staff walk through the jungles of life!

The top photo is the supporting staff of volunteers of Rubanda Solidarity Nursery/primary school who are dedicated to make a difference in changing the life conditions of the community through children quality education support program.
They are courageously walking together through the jungles of life to find new life for orphans and less fortunate kids of Rubanda community.  They do a good deal  and are all anxious to see what stands in the future for their 260 kids under their care. They also working hard for their first 24 candidates who are due to sit for their grade seven Uganda  Primary Leaving  Examination (UPLE) next year 2012. They are confident that their journey too will be approaching the end of the jungle with excellent results. Please, keep them in your heart and prayers.

Symbolism of food

Above are Ethiopian Youths sharing a common, Solidarity meal
"Life shared is life lived".

One day I watched a hot argument between two community elders and a group of youths. The topic of argument was about the diminishing "cultural values" and "modernized styles" of living.

The argument went on and on with no wining or fading side. Lastly one elder said, " Life is a journey that all have to walk together". Off he concluded the argument and went away.
A few days later, inspired by his words, I made an appointment with him to have a discussion.   As we discussed, this wise elder said, "life shared is life.  lived. Do you know how our common plates have vanished from our shelves and tables and each one now holds his/her plate while  eating?" Still I could not understand what this wise man intended to communicate.
Then, out of curiosity I asked him if he knows the health risks and hazards involved in eating and drinking from the same dish or cup.  This fellow boldly said, "that's where you people go wrong, Solidarity has more benefits than risks and individualism".

What do you think?
In case you have any comment or need more about the discussion just contact us by sending a post in the window provided below and we will gladly respond to you.

Easter Quiz from African KIDS

Easter Message from our School Kids

Hello Dad Hello Mom, Who is Jesus the teacher tells us about?
He is an excellent man who absolutely loves all little kids and peoples?
But why then does our teacher say that he was hated and killed, mom? Is it true that he works miracles even for little kids? Ooooh yes. Teacher told us that he died on Good Friday, who killed him? Who then will be doing miracles for little kids, mom?

Ooh, Yes, next week teacher will tell you about what happened after he had died, ok.
But what about Dad, does he know about Jesus, mom? Oh yes. Because last week he told me that he was not going to eat lunch and meat because he wanted to be like Jesus.
Oh no mom, you mean Jesus does not eat meat? Oh terrible little kid, Jesus died a very bad death, on the tree and for that reason your dad leaves out meat on the day Jesus died, to remember his death. On the day Jesus died? Did he die on the day like little kids go to school? Oh yes. Friday? Yes. Waooooo. And then? Because the father of Jesus was a great man called God, he raised up Jesus, his son. Oh mom...,true? Yes little kid,in the early morning of Sunday.
This is why in church all say Alleluia . Waoo, was he not stolen mom? No little kid, God came and took him up. Go..d? Yes. Ooh.
That God whom our teacher talks about when holding the bible. Great. You are a brilliant kid. Oh that God must be great. Can I see him mom? Who? God. Oh yes. That's why you have your Easter vacation. We shall go to meet him On Easter Sunday in Church and to our friends. Ok? Ok mom.

Go Soccer @ Rubanda Solidarity

Our kids love soccer. They have even made up an interpreting team that almost beat their teachers and non teaching staff last summer in 2010.
At the beginning of this  year they played with the neighboring school and scored one over zero, a score that earned them a new ball. Their potentials are enormous but only lack an inspiring coach.

If you have soccer development funs and are interested in sharing with our kids through instructing or offering link with other interested friends let us know. Just post a comment in the provided window below and we will reach you soon.

Best Regards.

Go Music @ Rubanda Solidarity development

Music energizes Rubanda youths Solidarity
"Ndyakuhaki Mukama wangye......" (what  will I offer you my Lord? )
This is the song being sung by these youths in Rubanda community. They know that all they have (little or much) is all from him.
This is an inspirational song that points out the common mistakes in community development.
Community development is more than having the improved infrastructure and basic needs.
Its the capacity of growing and walking together through daily hods and joys of life. Its all a cycle of social-economic- political and religious life.

Social life may describe it better, when you are able to hear the musical echoes of women and men working together. They work, they sing and dance together. The songs and dances are batteries and energizers of life a head, especially in tough moments.
RSDA Grade two choir develops music early hobby
Unity for success is our motto driven from the need to unite for better performance and results of which songs and dances are catalysts. They make the heart beats rejoice even in troubles.

A community that sings together develops immensely. To develop an African community invest in its social development dimensions of which you may not forget involvement and Participation as essential ingredients.

We teach our kids how to live a song of life. That is fighting all sorts of egoism, selfishness and individualism. These are serious development worms. They breed laziness, envy, jealousy, hate  and all sorts of malpractices that paralyze and cripple the strong together with the weak in the community. Then stealing changes its face into corruption, a disguised evil.

These youths, energetic as they are need to watch over idleness. They need to keep innovative and creative so as not to be scotched by poverty. Poverty that incapacitates all potentials and inflicts suffering to present and future generations.

Rubanda Solidarity is concerned of improving the livelihoods of  Rubanda community.  But we would do insignificantly without you.

Gorillas Near Rubanda Solidarity Mountains

Do you know that loving nature is loving life. Come to Rubanda and see the mountains that inhabit the fore fathers of all Gorillas in Africa. Next to this mountain is the Bwindi impenetrable forests that are a seat of giant Chimpanzees, unbeatable elephants and baffles.  You will be amazed to find even the oldest species in-there.

Toys or not Toys Kids learn by imitation

Would you think of kids without Game Toys ?

Teaching kids requires time and sacrifice. They want to see and touch everything. Their hearts are restless until they imitate. Take care that you be a good mentor for valuable imitation.

One winter afternoon I was caught speechless  when working and watching kids in the mud. The day was spent with heavy showers. And hardly had it stopped showering than kids went right into the heart of its mud and started playing and molding mud together to make cars, constructing ground zero houses , others making tractors, pots, wheel barrows, and all that could come in mind. Some others still teamed up in another corner and spent lots of time quietly  molding a person, cows and birds. On the other corner there was another group busy making religious symbols like a statue of Mary, constructing a church, making statues of saints or bible. It was amazing.

As I watched these kids busy, unconscious of time, dirt or even eating supper, something that clicked in my mind was; "we have fortunate and less fortunate kids in our world today, but rich or poor, kids are the same everywhere, and all need care and protection".

But when it comes to life opportunities, many kids from poor families or poor nations are stunted and work it out hard by themselves. Even with or without Toys, they have to find ways to cope up with life any way. They invent their standards.I even observed many of these kids making balls out of banana fibers, baby toys from tree leaves, bikes from wood, .......and said oh gosh, what a life.

After another a pause I discovered the source of their energy and inspiration into the mud. A week earlier we had  just began a construction project of their new dormitory in the school compound. And during break times, these kids would anxiously and quietly surround our work place  with very interesting curiosity, waiting for their weekend.

On weekends you could hardly find them playing as usual within the compound. They would  plan their time to put into practice their week's summary of curiosity. It's amazing how cute they are at imitation. They have limitless potentials but stunted by poverty.

Imitation like toys sharpen kid's brains, expand reason through experience and observation. Kids, as usual need aides that click on their brains for better development.

Our kids learn it through the harder way. They are in need of all that children need for child psycho-social development.

Rubanda Solidarity Nursery/Primary administration is putting together all efforts to provide these kids with the best.  We are bringing Rubanda community to the world map as the world becomes a little village through technology and soon or later our kids would experience a fortune and a smile to a better future.
You could be the next one on the list of our friends.
