Symbolism of food

Above are Ethiopian Youths sharing a common, Solidarity meal
"Life shared is life lived".

One day I watched a hot argument between two community elders and a group of youths. The topic of argument was about the diminishing "cultural values" and "modernized styles" of living.

The argument went on and on with no wining or fading side. Lastly one elder said, " Life is a journey that all have to walk together". Off he concluded the argument and went away.
A few days later, inspired by his words, I made an appointment with him to have a discussion.   As we discussed, this wise elder said, "life shared is life.  lived. Do you know how our common plates have vanished from our shelves and tables and each one now holds his/her plate while  eating?" Still I could not understand what this wise man intended to communicate.
Then, out of curiosity I asked him if he knows the health risks and hazards involved in eating and drinking from the same dish or cup.  This fellow boldly said, "that's where you people go wrong, Solidarity has more benefits than risks and individualism".

What do you think?
